Good Samaritan chases down drunken driver after crash that killed Texas cop: 'You f---ing killed somebody'

A Texas police officer was killed in a drunk driving accident, and a Good Samaritan who witnessed the crash chased down the driver, who was attempting to flee the scene. The incident occurred on February 19 in the city of Cedar Park, near Austin.

According to reports, the driver, identified as 26-year-old Rafael Cruz Jr., was speeding and driving recklessly before he crashed into the patrol vehicle of Cedar Park Police Officer Kevin Marceau, who was conducting a traffic stop. Marceau, a 43-year-old father of two, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Good Samaritan, identified only as Jeremiah, witnessed the crash and immediately sprang into action. He chased down Cruz, who was attempting to flee the scene on foot, and held him until police arrived.

"You f---ing killed somebody," Jeremiah can be heard saying to Cruz in a video of the incident that was captured by a bystander. "You're going to jail for life, bro."

Cruz was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. He is being held in Travis County Jail on a $400,000 bond.

The incident has shaken the Cedar Park community, and many have paid tribute to Marceau, who had been with the department for 16 years.

"He was well-respected and loved," Cedar Park Police Chief Mike Harmon said of Marceau at a press conference. "This is a tragic event that we are trying to get through."

The community has rallied around Marceau's family, with a GoFundMe page set up to help support his wife and children. As of February 24, the page had raised over $110,000.

Meanwhile, Cruz's family has also expressed remorse for the incident.

"We are devastated for the loss of the officer and the impact this has had on the family and the Cedar Park Police Department," a statement from Cruz's family read. "We cannot imagine the pain they are experiencing."

The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of drunk driving, and the importance of being vigilant on the roads. In 2020, over 10,000 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in the United States, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

As the Cedar Park community mourns the loss of Officer Marceau, they are also calling for justice for his death, and for an end to drunk driving.
