Inside Versace's LA show: Elton John's golf cart, existential afterparty

Versace's Fall/Winter 2023 show in Los Angeles was an unforgettable event that combined high fashion with Hollywood glamour and a touch of surrealism.

The show, which took place on March 6 at the iconic Beverly Center, featured a stunning collection of colorful, bold designs inspired by the Italian label's signature aesthetics. Models strutted down the runway in oversized coats, statement dresses, and leather separates adorned with Versace's trademark Medusa head logo, as well as eye-catching prints and intricate embroidery.

But the fashion was just the beginning of the spectacle. As guests arrived at the show, they were greeted by a fleet of golf carts decorated with Versace prints and colors, each driven by a chauffeur dressed in a matching outfit. Among the passengers were A-list celebrities and fashion insiders, including Kendall Jenner, Naomi Campbell, and Gigi Hadid, all dressed in head-to-toe Versace.

The show itself was a mesmerizing display of fashion and technology. The runway was a massive LED screen that displayed a futuristic cityscape, while the models walked on a catwalk that lit up with every step. The soundtrack featured a mix of classical and electronic music, adding to the surreal atmosphere.

After the show, guests were transported to an afterparty that continued the show's theme of surrealism. The party was held at an undisclosed location and required a secret code to enter. Once inside, guests were transported to a space designed to look like a futuristic club, complete with neon lights, mirrored surfaces, and a giant disco ball.

The afterparty featured a live performance by Elton John, who arrived on a Versace-branded golf cart and sang some of his biggest hits. The singer, who has a long-standing relationship with Versace and has been a muse for the label, wore a custom-made Versace jacket with embroidered flowers and the words "Love Versace" on the back.

But the party wasn't just about the music. There were also interactive art installations, including a giant ball pit filled with Versace-branded balls and a mirrored room that created a never-ending illusion of space. Guests were treated to cocktails and hors d'oeuvres served on Versace-branded trays, and the dance floor was packed with fashion insiders and celebrities, including Donatella Versace, Jennifer Lopez, and Kim Kardashian.

Overall, Versace's LA show was a masterful display of fashion, art, and entertainment. It showcased the label's ability to combine traditional Italian craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology and pop culture references, all while staying true to its heritage and DNA. And, of course, it provided a much-needed dose of glamour and escapism during these challenging times.
