Nuggets run away with Game 1 win over Timberwolves

The Denver Nuggets got off to a strong start in the NBA playoffs, dominating the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of their first-round series.

Led by MVP candidate Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets cruised to a 123-105 victory, with Jokic scoring 29 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.

The win was especially impressive considering that the Nuggets were without several key players, including Jamal Murray, Will Barton, and PJ Dozier.

Despite the absences, the Nuggets looked sharp from the start, building an early lead and never looking back.

Jokic was the star of the show, hitting a number of tough shots and dominating the glass on both ends of the court.

But he wasn't the only one who played well for the Nuggets. Michael Porter Jr. had a strong game, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while Aaron Gordon added 17 points and 4 steals.

For the Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony Towns had a big game, scoring 28 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. But it wasn't enough to keep up with the Nuggets, who looked like a team on a mission.

The win was a positive sign for the Nuggets, who have had to deal with a number of injuries this season. But with Jokic leading the way, they still have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs.

After the game, Jokic said he was happy with the way the team played, but that they couldn't afford to get complacent.

"We played well tonight, but we know we have to keep getting better," he said. "We can't take anything for granted in the playoffs."

The Nuggets will look to build on their Game 1 win when they take on the Timberwolves in Game 2 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves will need to regroup and figure out a way to slow down the Nuggets' high-powered offense.

"We didn't play our best tonight, but we know we're capable of more," said Towns. "We'll come back stronger in Game 2."

The NBA playoffs are just getting started, and there are sure to be plenty of surprises and upsets along the way. But for now, the Nuggets are the team to beat in the Western Conference, and they'll be looking to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Whether they can do it without Murray and the other injured players remains to be seen, but with Jokic leading the way, anything is possible.
