UFC fighter Dustin Poirier has been caught on camera slapping a heckler at a Mardi Gras parade in Louisiana over a sign that disrespected his wife.

In the video, which has gone viral on social media, Poirier is seen walking down the street during the parade when he notices a man holding a sign that reads "F*** Dustin's wife". Poirier immediately confronts the man and slaps him across the face before walking away.

Poirier later issued a statement on social media, saying that he regrets his actions but was defending his wife's honor.

"I'm sorry for losing my cool and hitting the guy, but when someone disrespects my wife like that, I can't just stand there and do nothing," Poirier said. "I'm a fighter, and I defend my family and my honor."

The UFC has not yet commented on the incident, and it is unclear whether Poirier will face any disciplinary action.

This is not the first time that Poirier has been involved in a physical altercation outside of the Octagon. In 2019, he was involved in a brawl with fellow UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov at a press conference, and in 2020, he got into a scuffle with rapper Conor McGregor at a charity event.

While Poirier's actions may have been understandable given the nature of the sign, they also highlight the dangers of confrontations in public spaces. Physical altercations can quickly escalate and result in serious injuries or legal consequences.

As professional athletes and public figures, UFC fighters have a responsibility to represent their sport and their organization in a positive light. While it is important to stand up for oneself and one's loved ones, it is also important to do so in a respectful and responsible manner.
